Passing the U.S. bar exam is an impressive credential that offers immediate career advantages. Eligible foreign-educated lawyers can meet the requirements to sit for the Massachusetts bar exam by completing coursework at New England Law | Boston.

The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners permits lawyers from common law countries—such as the United Kingdom, India, and Hong Kong—to take the Massachusetts bar exam after meeting standards that include completing 15 credits at an ABA-accredited law school.

You can take the courses you need to meet this bar exam requirement through New England Law’s Foreign Lawyer Bar Program. These courses include topics such as constitutional law, criminal law, and commercial law. Our knowledgeable and supportive faculty and staff will ensure you are prepared for this critical exam.

How to Apply

Eligible foreign-educated lawyers can apply to the New England Law Foreign Lawyer Bar Program by submitting the following materials to admit@nesl.edu.

  • Foreign Lawyer Bar Program Application
  • An official transcript from your law school verifying receipt of degree
  • Letter from the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners stating the classes required*

Applications are considered on a rolling basis; you should receive a decision within four weeks of submitting your completed application.

* Eligible foreign-educated attorneys must provide a letter from the Board of Bar Examiners stating the classes required to sit for the bar exam.
